Wearing Tights

Tights are an extremely popular form of clothing, and can add to any outfit - underneath a skirt, dress or even worn with a cute pair of shorts! They are particularly useful in the colder months if you’re not a fan of jeans or pants.
They can make an outfit more colorful, chic and original and there are many different colors and patterns available.
Here are some of a few basic rules I follow when wearing tights:
1. Plaid/ tartan patterned tights - an example of these is shown here. These can make you stand out and look original when they are worn, but often leave people who have curvier legs looking shorter than they really are. This being said, they can look amazing on those who have slim and/or long legs!
2. Too many patterns - personally I find it a bit too much when patterned tights are mixed with a patterned skirt/dress. There are obviously exceptions to this, but a lot of the time the wearer can look overwhelmed and the outfit doesn’t ‘flow’ as well.
3. Don’t be afraid to wear colored tights! The result is often chic and refreshing. Experiment with colors you normally would not wear in tights such as orange, red, green, navy blue or purple! Both Topshop and Asos stock colored tights. Such inspiration can be found from the character of Blair Waldorf in the extremely popular TV show, Gossip Girl.
4. Tights are not pants. There is nothing more unsightly than being able to see the outline of someone’s underwear, and at times it does not end at this - tights are not manufactured to be worn as pants so it is possible to actually see your undergarments. This is not to be confused with leggings which are a lot thicker.
Most importantly - don’t be afraid to experiment with tights. They are an affordable way of spicing up any outfit and are extremely useful in cold weather. There are of course, many exceptions to the above rules, so do try different outfit combinations, and remember to have fun!
“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening” - Coco Chanel
I will be honest - growing up, I never had an interest in fashion or how I dressed. I was more into climbing trees and playing tiggy. My interest in clothes and fashion began when I started working and earning my own money for the first time after my 18th birthday.
I discovered that dressing yourself isn’t just about covering your body, or wearing something just to have something on. It is a means of expression, an extension of your personality and who you are. I have learned to love the whole process surrounding putting together an outfit - what you feel like, what goes well together, trying a new way to wear something and taking into account practicality (but only sometimes!)
To me, fashion is not just about clothes - it’s an art form that is everywhere, from the way your cereal floats in your milk in the morning to the autumn leaves littering our streets. It is the beauty and style present in our homes, buildings, nature and invades every corner of our lives.
And that is what I aim to do with this blog - document and discuss the things that I love, about fashion, style and the beautiful things I come across in my everyday life.
